Meet the GBS Class of 2023
This year, we welcome 63 students from the class of 2023 of the master’s program in global business and society at the Yale School of Management. The students come from eight schools in the Global Network for Advanced Management, where they have completed or are in the process of completing their Masters in Management. These students hold citizenship of 22 countries and speak 22 languages, all speaking two or more languages. All 63 students hold passports outside the United States and the class is 56% female with an average age of 24.
The GBS program is designed to prepare early-career students with less than three years of work experience for global careers. Students spend a year at Yale taking a required course as a cohort, focusing on exploring business and government after communism, rethinking business’s place in society and its relationship to government , at a time when alternatives to capitalism are evolving. Students then choose from a list of advanced management electives created specifically for GBS students and complete their program by selecting electives from Yale SOM and the university to customize the rest of the study.
Students in the incoming GBS class come from a variety of professions, including entrepreneurship. Employers represented include McKinsey & Company, Amazon, Goldman Sachs, Chinese Red Cross, Cartier, BCG, Birkenstock, L’Oréal, Tesla, Swiss International Airlines, Uber and many more.
They have been mentors, tutors, volunteer teachers and club presidents. One student co-founded a mental health hotline and club dedicated to student mental health, and another is a certified Swiss ski instructor. Their hobbies include fashion, acting, hip-hop dancing, and painting, and many students have an interest in cooking.
Students have a wide range of talents in this musically inclined group. We have students who play guitar, clarinet, saxophone, drums, piano and violin, as well as several singers.
There are also a lot of sports people among the group, who enjoy activities like tennis, basketball, windsurfing, volleyball, swimming, sailing, ballet, fencing, horse riding, field hockey, rugby, ice skating, football, judo, boxing, cricket, fencing, running, cycling, badminton and extreme sports like skiing free-ride and paragliding.
Students come from diverse academic backgrounds and top academic institutions, from engineering to arts and languages to food science. One student holds a master’s degree in diplomacy and another an LLB. They have received various academic awards and national scholarships, winning cum laude and designations on the Dean’s List.
We are thrilled to have this group of accomplished and talented students join our community at Yale SOM. Welcome to the GBS Class of 2023!
