12-year-old singer from Kerala to perform at T20 WC, know all about her

Janaki Easwar: When 12-year-old Janaki Easwar performed on Australia’s music reality show “The Voice”, she not only stunned the four celebrity judges but also won hearts across India. Janaki’s song from Billie Eilish’s “Lovely” received a round of four chairs from the judges, which included Australian singers Keith Urban, Jess Mauboy, Guy Sebastian and British singer Rita Ora. Her performance video went viral and she now has a huge following on social media.

The 13-year-old will now sing with classic Australian rock band Icehouse and other notable artists ahead of the T20 World Cup Grand Final on November 13 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

“The excitement ahead of the event is huge,” Janaki told a media portal.

Icehouse will perform his song “We Can Get Together” alongside Janaki and Zimbabwean-born soul and R&B artist Thando Sikwila at the 2022 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Australia, according to a press release.

Janaki’s appearance in “The Voice”, dressed in traditional clothing from the southern Indian state of Kerala, has become a source of pride for many Indian migrants.

Janaki mentioned that she will perform in Indian costume again when she takes center stage at the MCG. “The most exciting part is the outfits. The team has ideas about incorporating traditional Indian clothing, and that’s the most fun part,” she said.

Janaki Easwar has fearlessly tapped into his Indian and Australian roots, from singing raag Kamas on The Voice Australia to firmly capturing the essence of Billie Eilish with a cover of “Lovely.” While she immediately caused a stir in Australia after impressing trainers like Keith Urban, Rita Ora and Jessica Mauboy in 2021, she has been spending time in India recently, including broadcast performances in Kerala.

She also recently released her new English track “I’ve Been Waiting”. Rich Fayden and Jeff Wells of Los Angeles produced the song, which is a pop/R&B-oriented tune that is sometimes melancholic but ultimately contemplative in a positive way. It follows singles like “Clown” (produced by Alan Joy Mathew, aka The RedMoone), “Ocean Eyes” (a collaboration with guitarist-producer Sumesh Parameswar), and others.
